It is important to keep a list of emergency contacts easily accessible in your home. Print this list and place it in a visible spot (on your refrigerator or near the phone), so you are always prepared.

In the event of an emergency, call 911 for assistance. When you call:

  • Remain calm and speak clearly.
  • Tell the operator your location and the emergency.
  • Answer any questions the operator may have and follow their instructions.
  • Stay on the line until the operator instructs you to hang up.

  • Swallowing poison
  • Eye or skin irritation from toxic substances
  • Inhalation of noxious fumes or vapors
  • Animal, insect, snake and spider bites

  • Attempted suicides or drug overdoses
  • Pet poisoning exposures

Saturday, 1 to 5 p.m.

  • A pediatrician is available during these hours to care for urgent needs of PAMF patients.
  • Appointments are required and may be scheduled by calling the Clinic operator at 650-321-4121 and asking to speak with the Pediatric Advice Nurse.
  • An urgent-care fee is applied to services provided Monday through Friday, 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday after 1 p.m., and all day Sunday or holidays.

  • Urgent care needs are those that are serious enough to seek immediate attention from a physician, but not life-threatening.
  • Appointments will be taken and are encouraged. You may also choose to "walk in" to the Urgent Care Center without an appointment, but please be aware that patients with appointments will generally be seen first, depending on urgency.

Redwood Shores Health Center Urgent Needs

A physician is always on call, but please reserve your calls for emergencies. Clinic operators can reach the on-call physician 24 hours a day. Unless the problem is life threatening, please call us before going to an emergency room or another health care facility.

Los Altos Clinic After-Hours Care

Advice nurses and/or physicians are available 24 hours a day, seven days per week to assist you with urgent medical needs. You may be directed to seek care at our Urgent Care Center located at 795 El Camino Real in Palo Alto.

Fremont Center Advice Nurse

Urgent appointments are visits for acute problems which may need to be evaluated or treated within 24 hours. Call the Fremont Center first to determine if your physician can see you immediately or that day. The receptionist or telephone advice nurse will schedule an appointment or direct you to the physician on-call in the department. All departments provide on-call physicians daily to meet the need for urgent appointments.
