Pediatricians are experts in the health care and management of problems in infants, children, teens and young adults. To become trained in pediatrics, a doctor must have three or more years of continuing education after medical school. This is called residency -- once completed a doctor takes a comprehensive test given by the American Board of Pediatrics (AAP) to become "board certified."

This additional education makes a pediatrician uniquely qualified to manage the health care of your child. Parents find pediatricians not only invaluable for dealing with health problems but in providing answers to questions about development, growth, emotional issues, prevention of drug abuse, puberty and other teen issues. Most parents, children and pediatricians form strong ties with one another that can last across generations. Some of our pediatric doctors at PAMF see and treat the children and grandchildren of patients they treated early in their careers.
