Class Overview:
"Babies don't come with an instruction booklet! Breastfeeding is a learned art, which takes practice, patience, and support. In this class we will answer some of the questions new parents have when they first begin feeding their newborns." Gail Fiocka R.N., IBCLC
The breastfeeding class is taught by Gail Fiock, R.N., lactation consultant for PAMF. Designed to provide expectant parents with the knowledge and tools they need to get breastfeeding off to the right start, topics will cover:
- Benefits of breastfeeding
- Why women quit?
- How does BF work?
- Anatomy and physiology of breastfeeding and breastmilk
- Getting off to a great start the first week
- Latch and supply: is my baby getting enough?
- Preventing difficulties: sore nipples, engorgement, low milk supply
- Sleepy babies/jaundice
- Positioning practice with baby dolls
