Class Overview:A Six-Week Focus on Healthy Living and Managing Your Lifestyle Through Exercise and Healthy Eating
This class is an approach to weight, fitness and eating without dieting. It is an enlightening six-week class that provides positive reinforcement to the healthful lifestyle changes determined by the participant. It includes an approach that connects eating and exercise. The class is taught by a certified personal trainer, Laurel Francesconi, and a registered dietitian, Karen Ross.
As a participant you will learn to focus on eating more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean sources of protein. You will come to appreciate the importance of eating breakfast, not skipping meals, or waiting too long to eat once you are hungry. You will practice “intuitive eating” – eating when hungry and stopping when full – realizing how much or how little you eat for “other reasons”. Satisfaction in eating, as well as finding pleasure in eating, will be addressed. During the last class, you will problem solve using your accumulated skills to address healthy eating at the work place and during social occasions and the holidays. In addition, participants will take a one and a half hour supermarket tour of a local grocery store examining labels to learn the techniques of making healthier food choices.
Our approach to exercise is one of safe and functional physical activity. The course is broken into four exercise components: cardiovascular, core including balance, flexibility, and strength training. Throughout the session, we focus on the general benefits of exercise, as well as the benefits of each exercise component individually. We will explore numerous exercise options, both with equipment and without. Our goal is to make some degree of physical fitness attainable for each class participant so that it can become a part of everyone’s lifestyle.

You can pre-register for classes by filling in the form below. Please note this request form does not automatically enroll you in the class. We will make every effort to accommodate your request for a particular class. Your registration will be finalized with a confirmatory e-mail or phone call from PAMF, as well as collection of any necessary class fees.
