Are You at Risk for Diabetes?
People Have Diabetes and Don't Even Know It!
There are 21 million Americans with diabetes -- and nearly one-third of them (or 5.2 million people) do not know it! Listed below are major risk factors for having diabetes.
If you answered "yes" to one or more of these questions, please be sure to ask your health care providers on your next office visit about your risk for diabetes and what you can do to reduce that risk.
- You are 45 or older.
- You are overweight.
- You have high blood pressure or high triglycerides.
- A member of your immediate family has diabetes.
- You are Latino, African American, Native American, Asian American or Pacific Islander.
- You've had a baby weighing more than 9 pounds or were diagnosed with gestational diabetes during your pregnancy.
