September 2007

In honor of national Walk-to-School Week beginning October 1, PAMF encourages individuals in all communities to get in the healthy habit of journeying to and from school on foot or on bike. Not only does walking and biking to school help children – and parents – get the exercise needed to help combat obesity, but it also helps reduce air pollution and unsafe traffic congestion around schools.

During Walk-to-School Week, many local school districts are encouraging families to walk, bike, ride scooters or even carpool or ride the bus to school. The event teaches children road safety, gives them an opportunity to become familiar with their community and helps them make exercise a routine part of their daily lives. It is also a great way to start the new school year in good health.

For more information, check with your local school or visit www.cawalktoschool.com.
