State Health Department Recalls Diestel Turkey Ranch Ready-to-Eat Products
The California Department of Health Services has announced a product recall of the Diestel Turkey Ranch brand of ready-to-eat turkey products due to possible contamination with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes. The recall involved 6,907 pounds of turkey products produced only on April 20, 2007. No illness has been reported to date. Infection with Listeria can resemble food poisoning and is particularly dangerous in infants, seniors, pregnant women and individuals with weakened immune systems. Common symptoms include fever, watery diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, and pains in joints and muscles lasting from one to two days.
Diestel products are sold by several Bay Area retailers: Cosentino's Markets, Country Sun Natural Foods, Dittmer's Gourmet Meats, Draeger's Markets, Gene's Quito Market, J.J. & F Market, Milk Pail Market, Schaub's and Whole Foods Markets.
