SYLLABICATION: ad·o·les·cence
PRONUNCIATION: AUDIO: dl-sns

NOUN: 1. The period of physical and psychological development from the onset of puberty to maturity.
2. A transitional period of development between youth and maturity.

It's easy to define but what is going on in your body is truly complex and marvelous.

Your body is preparing to go through or may have already started some incredible changes -- your voice will change, your bones will grow, hair will start growing under your arms and around your genitals, and in girls breasts will begin to develop.

All these things will happen to you but it will be according to your body's own timing. That means everyone around you is going to be at different stages of change. That brings up a common question:

"Am I normal?"

Yes, you are!

Most people your age don't feel very normal at times. But try to remember that you are unique and special, and your body will change and grow when it is ready.

This section has information on how you can help your body change to be the best it can be through eating right and fitness. There are articles as well on dealing with appearance issues such as armpit odor, acne and personal hygiene.
