Book Reviews
The SODAH Kids (and sometimes their parents, too) enjoy reading books. Sometimes they read books that deal with issues they are facing, sometimes they read books for school assignments and sometimes they read just for fun.
This month, we review House on Mango Street series.

House on Mango Street
Many middle school students have read Sandra Cisnero's novel of a young girl growing up in the Latino section of Chicago, called House on Mango Street. It is one of my favorite coming-of-age stories.
The book is heartbreaking and joyous. It tells the story of Esperanza Cordero, whose neighborhood is one of harsh realities and beauty. Esperanza rejects the low expectations the world has for her, preferring power, and inventing for herself what she will become. Quite inspiring!
