Magazine Reviews
Discovery Girls
Discovery Girls magazine is written by and for preteens and covers topics regarding everyday life and personal stories. Some of the stories are about friendship, celebrities, life events and transitions, and other articles talk about crafts and other things that interest preteens. The magazine also includes fun items, like quizzes and stories about most embarrassing moments.
Recent issues have had interesting articles on how magazines make models look better than they are in real life and a quiz on whether or not you can communicate with your pet. The magazine also interviews girls who live outside the United States about food, holidays, fashion, culture and school. In addition, readers can send in questions and have them answered by peers their own age.
The ads are suitable for preteens, and so is the content. As a side note, the content isn’t really specific to the month it is published. Every month, the magazine focuses on a different sport, but really most of the content could be interchangeable between issues.
We would rate this magazine 4 out of 4 for preteen girls, but for girls older than preteens, it is too young. Overall, it is a good, simple magazine that has some creative aspects and is a fun read.
