New Moon has lots of content and letters written by girls all over the world. The magazine promotes "girl power" and independent girls. There are stories written by girls -- both fiction and non-fiction personal tales -- and an "ask a girl" section where girls can write in personal questions about anything that are answered by their peers.

There are no ads, and the content is well matched to the age group targeted: ages 8-14. The magazine might be a little young for a 14-year-old, but it’s cool to see a magazine that doesn’t tell girls to be a certain way or what they should wear.

We rate this magazine 4 out of 4 for girls ages 8-14. It is informative, and the feminist attitude is positive and optimistic. The magazine publishes girls’ artwork, poems and stories in a safe environment. There are no ideals or stereotypes in the magazine -- and it's a nice break.

You can find out more by going to the magazine’s Web site: www.newmoon.org.
