The department is staffed by psychiatrists, licensed clinical social-workers (LCSWs), Marriage, Family and Child Counselors (MFTs) and support staff. Members interact extensively to assure that patient needs are met:
- Some patients may require serious psychiatric treatment, including carefully monitored medications to enable them to function and begin to recover.
- Others require social-work counseling to help them steer through specific life and family situations, or to overcome emotional blocks or traumas.
- Still others do best with group support, which enables them to draw on the struggles, successes and guidance of others who have been-or still are-in similar emotional and life circumstances.
- Some patients may move from one to another form of treatment as part of their healing process.
